Flying High with Forticrete

Creating a stunning finish to the external facade of The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust’s new multi-million pound exhibition and visitor centre, The Wing, was a key specification consideration for contractor, EPPS Construction.

Built to resemble a Spitfire wing, complete with its famous uplift, the new building required an external finish that would enhance its visual impact and ensure a landmark attraction.

EPPS Construction specified Forticrete’s Polished Florentine® concrete blocks as these high performance, polished architectural masonry blocks would reflect the scale of the build and provide a durable and low maintenance solution.   The decorative concrete blocks were used extensively, producing eye-catching expanses of reflective, decorative walling - all with a high quality finish and cost-effectively.

The new building will house The Scramble Experience, a hands-on exhibition that uses audio-visual effects and video to educate visitors about the events of the Battle of Britain in 1940. The Wing also comprises learning and study facilities.
